Google Video

September 26, 2005

Google has a great new video searching service in beta. I hit a few random links and found this little gem:

Pigeons in the Park

Now we know what to do with those pesky things…

What are the odds?

September 25, 2005

…and if anyone comes back at me with a mathematcial solution to that question, I’ll slap you over the ‘net. But I’ve been working on a tune that’s been in my head for ever (like, 15 years or so…). I finally got it in a format outside of my head tonight. I was thrilled. Then I started working on CrossTalk stuff again and turned the internet radio on to Radio Paradise.

Well, wouldn’t you know it.

A Santana song comes on - one I’d never heard before (”Samba Pa Ti”) and the central rythm guitar riff is the same as mine! Not that it’s a big deal. My tune certainly won’t sound anything like his as the melody is totally different (as well as the pre-chorus and chorus chords). But I sang my own melody right along with a Santana tune. Wild.

I actually lost SimCity

September 23, 2005

I didn’t know it could be done. Sure, I knew you can really foul things up, but I didn’t know you could actually lose the game!

I was working on a city that I had started a while ago and found that I was importing my power from another city. Well, when I start to get ahead on my budget (making more than I’m spending), I tend to push the speed up as fast as I can get it to go so I can build up a money surplus as fast as I can. I was in that situation, letting my surplus go up, when I decided to zone some more land. While zoning, I zoned right over the power lines going to my neighboring city. Now, normally this isn’t a problem, but apparently zoning over a power line that connects you to another city breaks the connection.

Did I mention the game speed was maxed?

Well, it didn’t take long (a split second) for my power to go out. It didn’t take much more time for every resident to move out. That created quite a deficit in my budget (with no taxes coming in). It also didn’t take long (before I FINALLY paused the game) for my surplus to run out. I had just enough to build a power plant (since my neighboring city was now snubing me for “dropping the power deal”). But after that… I had no money. I had to just wait for people to move back in. My deficit was about half closed when my bank account dropped below -$100,000.

Here’s the jist of the message I got:

“Due to the lack of funding, you’ve been removed from office. Press any key to run for senator.”

Game over, man! Game over!

The $40 USB cable

September 10, 2005

So, I need a 10′ USB cable to get from my computer to my printer with out tripping over things. Tonya was on her way to the store, so I asked her to stop by and pick up a cable at Best Buy.

10′ cable.
$28

What’s with that store, anyhow?? When she called me to ask if that price sounding right, I replied, “no… find someone and ask where the the regular cables are.” So, she did. He led her to the same aisle and pulled a $40 cable down and handed it to her!

$40 for a 10′ USB cable???? I justed looked one up on New Egg and they have one for $2.59! Oh, but wait! That one’s not gold plated! Sheesh. I thought it was stupid when Radio Shack started gold plating their audio connectors. I own a professional recording studio, folks. None of my equipment ever came with gold plated connectors. Why do consumers think they’re equipment’s any better. But now, USB cables? What… do the prints off my laser printer look better because the the one’s and zero’s are clearer on the wire?

Man. That just nuts. I’m going back to Computer Deli.

New dinning room floors

September 4, 2005

It took a whole day, and a bunch of muscles I haven’t used in ages. However, with my father-in-law’s help (Jim), we were able to get our dinning room floor installed - from nasty carpet to lamenent (with quarter-round - even painted quarter-round) in one day. We still have one transition strip to put in, but we’re waiting for some filler to dry before we can attach the metal strip that goes beneath it.

This sure beats that nasty “kid food-stuff infested” carpet we ripped out.
